"Predominantly the task they will be (dealing with) is trees across roads and houses," SES North West regional manager John Parker said.
"The specialist skills each crew members brings from their agency compliments the effectiveness of the task force."
The SES would remove trees from roofs while the DEPI and CFA would conduct ground operations, including cutting trees.
UPDATE 4.30pm: Golden Square resident Simon Ham's tin roof was badly damaged by severe winds, with more than half of it blowing off and the remainder in a fragile state.
Mr Ham was at home at 1pm when the house began to rattle and shake.
"I heard pings and all of a sudden the neighbours came running and the entire roof came off," he said.
"There's a chimney a metre back that's holding (the remainder) up.
"It was terrifying ... It seemed like an earthquake."
Mr Ham was home alone with his two cats during the incident.
During the worst gust of wind - when the roof was being blown off - Mr Ham hid in his outdoor shed.
Mr Ham was being assisted by the State Emergency Service and he said he had house insurance.
UPDATE 2.06pm: SES crews are on scene at Neale Street, Kennington, after a large tree fell across the road about 1.15pm.

UPDATE 1.25pm: Kennington couple Sylvia and Alfie Annison had the fright of their life on Tuesday morning.
Mrs Annison said she and her husband were in the lounge room when they heard a thunderous noise outside.
Mrs Annison said she then went and had a look outside her back door and what she discovered was not what she was expecting.
A large branch of a huge gum tree in her neighbours adjacent backyard had fallen onto the roof of her fernery and outside patio area.
She said the couple had repeatedly asked their neighbour to remove the old gum tree.
Though the tree had caused extensive damage to the outside area and garden the pair remain upbeat and happy about the situation.
"I am just so happy that the tree didn't hit our house," Mr Annison said.
"Our garden is wrecked but we are here standing upright.
"We were very lucky."
UPDATE 1.15pm: LaTrobe university head of campus Rob Stephenson said the power outage had affected the power supply to the whole campus.
He said they had access to an emergency power supply for a limited number of services.
The campus closed at 10.45am and reopened at 12 noon.
There was an exam in progress at the time of the outage.
Further exams this afternoon, will go unaffected.
UPDATE 12.30pm: Most power outages have been restored, says Powercor spokesman Lyall Johnson.
He said at the peak of the storm at 11.30am there were 4000 customers without power.
There was a tree down on one of the large conductors on Gladstone Street causing outages to more than 2300 customers.
This outage is currently affecting only 50 customers.
BoM duty forecaster Steven McGibbony said the severe weather warning was still in place for the region.
He said the strongest gust in Bendigo reached 80 km/h.
He said Bendigo had missed the worst of the extreme weather that is now moving eastward.
UPDATE 12.15pm: Top of the Range Tearooms situated at the top of Mt Macedon is experiencing strong wind and rain. Owner Luke Chapman said it was great for business. He said whenever he provided snow updates on his Facebook page, the cafe got inundated with customers keen for a warm drink away from the cold.
Mt Macedon resident Anna Thompson said there was enough snow earlier this morning for a snow man but it had melted away by late morning.
UPDATE 11.42am: The sun is out in Bendigo but the severe weather warning still remains in place for people in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts. UPDATE 11.40am: West Bendigo has also been added to the list of suburbs with power outages. The fault is under investigation but occurred at Marong Road, Golden Square. Power is estimated to be restored by 1.30pm.

UPDATE 11.15am: A fallen tree branch in Condon Street has caused traffic lights at the Edwards and Condon streets intersection to lose power.
The branch has fallen on a live wire. There has been no interruption to traffic and police are on scene.
Senior Constable Steve Bice said City of Greater Bendigo staff were on scene to clean up the mess from the tree.
UPDATE 11.05am: Power outages have spread to Bendigo and White Hills, with Powercor now reporting five suburbs with outages.
Powercor is estimating the power to be restored by 1.30pm in all suburbs.
The wind is believed to be responsible for the faults at Flora Hill, Kennington and Quarry Hill.
There are also outages in Woodend, Newstead and Carisbrook.
UPDATE 10.45am: Power outages occurring as result of a fault at the Gladstone Street, Quarry Hill, power station have caused more than 2000 Powercor customers to lose connection.

UPDATE 7.30am: A severe weather warning has also been issued for most of the state today, with destructive winds and damaging winds forecast for people in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts.
Damaging winds of about 50 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 100-110 km/h km/h are forecast for the Wimmera and North Central forecast districts and parts of the Mallee and Northern Country forecast districts.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; and Keep clear of fallen power lines.

EARLIER: WINTER weather swept through central Victoria yesterday - delivering rain, wind and cold temperatures.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Matt Michael said Bendigo recorded 2.8 millimetres of rain, with Mount Buffalo recording 49 millimetres - the state's most.
He said the city recorded a minimum temperature of about 13 degrees at 11.20am while high wind gusts of 65 km/h were recorded about lunchtime.
After 9am on Monday, Charlton recorded 2.4 millimetres, while Echuca received two millimetres and Castlemaine .8 millimetres.
Mr Michael said central Victorians could expect cold and wet weather conditions to continue this week, with a top of 12 degrees forecast today.
He said hail and wind gusts of up to 90km/h were also forecast for the north central region.
