Twelve students from prep to Grade 6 worked with artists Troy Firebrace and Daikota Nelson to create the Womindjika Mural.
Big Hill principal Matt Pearce said the school's large number of Indigenous students made the art project an important one.
"In Bendigo, we are one of the schools with a high percentage students with an Indigenous background," he said.
"We have got our acknowledgement plaque but our Womindjika mural lets people know we value the First Nations people and are making our school as culturally safe as post for people.
"What is also important is that, as a part of our curriculum, we get it right with recognising First Nations people."
Mr Pearce said a Creative Arts Victoria Grant made the project possible.
"To have access to artists like Troy and Daikota is amazing," he said. "We had expert tutoring in culture and the arts from both of them."
