Mount Alexander Shire Council is inviting residents to attend the Community Capacity Building Forum - Beyond Planning event on Sunday at the Campbells Creek Community Centre.
The council's sustainable communities director Carolyn Wallace said the forum, which will run from 9.30am to 4pm, was open to everyone.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved in building the prosperity and liveability of their community," she said.
"We encourage all community members to come along.
"Council is hosting the forum to support individuals and groups in developing the skills and knowledge they need to work together to bring about the positive changes they want to see in their communities, and help progress their community plan."
She said the day would include two sessions as well as a morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
The morning session will feature two guest speakers - Community House manager Martyn Shaddick and Growing Abundance program's Sas Allardice.
It will also feature a panel session, with speakers representing all nine towns involved in the council's community planning project.
The afternoon session will focus on skill development in the areas of volunteering, project development and community engagement.
