PROVIDING rail services when people need them most should be a priority for Eaglehawk Railway Station, City of Greater Bendigo councillor Peter Cox says.

Situated on the Swan Hill line, the station now receives six services per day.
Despite having an additional train added recently, Cr Cox said it was often difficult for commuters to align their travels.
"You can catch the train to Melbourne at 5.45am and get there in good time, but the difficulty starts when you go to come back," he said.
"If you park your car at Eaglehawk, you have got to get the exact right train back to Eaglehawk. That's not always convenient."
An upgrade for the station was promised as part of the funding that helped to construct the Epsom Railway Station.
The works would include further lengthening the platform. At the moment, only trains with three carriages fit at Eaglehawk.
"People have to walk through carriages just to get off the train if they're sitting at the front or back," Cr Cox said.
He said a plan to have all trains to Bendigo terminate at either Eaglehawk or Epsom would go a long way to improving the service for commuters in the area.
Cr Cox said the state government made a commitment to the plan, but it was yet to come to fruition.
Eaglehawk Railway Station was included in a proposed Labor Party study to investigate introducing a Bendigo metro rail service.
Cr Cox said it was "quite exciting" to see politicians looking seriously at the idea.
"They're talking about trains every half an hour to Bendigo," he said.
"We always thought it was impossible for all levels of government to come together on an idea like this."
Eaglehawk benefits from regular bus services throughout the day.
3556 Business Community Network member Ken Wellard said any plant that includes extensive consultation with the community is welcomed.
"Any exploration of these issues is very exciting for Eaglehawk," he said.
