The book follows the trial of Robert Farquharson, who was convicted of murdering his three children after driving into a dam on Father's Day in 2005.
Garner worked as a secondary school teacher until 1972 when she moved into journalism.
In 1978 her first novel, Monkey Grip, won the national Book Council Award and was adapted for film in 1981.
This House of Grief was the Times Literary Supplement Book of the Year in 2014 and was shortlisted for a number of awards in 2015, including the Stella Prize and NSW Premier's Literary Awards.
The case is familiar territory for Garner, who also won a Walkley Award for her 1993 article about the murder of two-year-old Daniel Valerio.
The event is fully booked.
