Opening the batting, Smith blasted 104 off just 44 balls against Sandhurst at Bendigo Door Centre Weeroona Oval.
Smith joins Michael Hill (119 for Bendigo) and Ben Gunn (117 for Strathfieldsaye) as players to have made tons since the BDCA Twenty20 competition began in 2008-09.
“It’s an extremely small ground at Weeroona Oval, and with Sandhurst having four spinners, the drizzle at the start of the game made it tough for them to grip the ball,” Smith said on Wednesday.
“So it was tough for them, but it was a very good wicket and I had a bit of luck along the way.”
One of those pieces of luck being a missed stumping chance before Smith was five.
He was eventually out lbw to Liam Bowe (2-36) with the score on 132.
Smith’s 104 helped power the Hawks to 6-194, with other contributions coming from Josh Collinson (35) and Anthony West (26).
The Dragons were bowled out for 151 in reply to lose by 43 runs.
Shane Robinson made his second half-century of the competition with 51 off 29 balls that featured four boundaries and three sixes.
Teenager Jordan Shelton finished the innings off by taking 3-17 off 1.4 overs for the Hawks, who won their first game, while the Dragons are now 0-2.
• White Hills cruised to a comfortable six-wicket win over Bendigo United, making it two-from-two.
The Demons restricted Bendigo United to 7-96 after the Redbacks won the toss and batted.
Marquee player Hamish Winter-Irving conceded just 10 runs off his four overs for the Demons, while Mitch Winter-Irving (2-18) and Travis Colley (2-22) – the competition’s leading wicket-taker – took two wickets apiece.
Among Colley’s scalps was the key wicket of Ben Gunn (19 off 20).
Riley Treloar (27 off 23) top-scored for the Redbacks, who at one stage lost 4-10, falling from 2-70 to 6-80.
While Hills took 14.2 overs to answer with 4-98, with skipper Mitch Winter-Irving (37 n.o.) leading the way.
• Kangaroo Flat won its first game of the tournament, accounting for Huntly-North Epsom by seven wickets at N8 Health Oval.
A Brodie McRae half-century helped steer the Power to 4-126 batting first.
McRae’s 54 came off 44 balls and featured nine boundaries.
Skipper Michael Hanson and Peter Moore both added 18 for the Power.
Captain Brent Hamblin picked up 2-15 off three overs for the Roos, who in reply won with five balls to spare as they answered with 3-130.
Coming off 140 in the second XI last Saturday, Tyler Hinds continued his form with 59 off 48 (four fours, one six).
Hinds and marquee player Daniel Sartori (25 off 21) put on 47 for the first wicket for the Roos, while Jake Klemm later finished unbeaten on 34 off 44.
Hanson (2-6) bowled one over for the Power, taking two of the three wickets to fall in removing Hinds and Hamblin (0).
• Strathdale-Maristians recorded a five-wicket win over Strathfieldsaye in an entertaining clash at All Seasons Oval.
After being 2-16 early, the Jets made a competitive 6-156 batting first.
Pat Felmingham (45 off 31, five fours, two sixes) and skipper Ben Devanny (41 off 39, seven fours) were the chief run-scorers for the Jets, while Zoltan Smyth chipped in with a handy 26 off 13 late.
Marquee player Andrew Chalkley was the best of the bowlers for the Suns with his 3-34, which included removing both Felmingham and Devanny.
The Suns took 18.2 overs to answer with 5-157 on the back of some lusty late hitting from Dylan Baillie.
Baillie smacked a quickfire 45 n.o. off 13 balls (three fours, five sixes), with good support coming from Jack Neylon (22 off 8), with the pair putting on an unbroken partnership of 67 after coming together at 5-90.
Earlier, the returning Nick Baker made 40 off 34 (five fours, one six), while Jets’ spinner Stephen Brown kept the pressure on with his 3-15 off four overs.
