Racing Victoria stewards tested all riders for the presence of alcohol at the meeting, with Childs returning a reading above the allowable limit of .02.
An apologetic Childs took to Twitter to express his remorse.
“Today at Bendigo I returned an alcohol above the illegal limit,” he wrote.
“I have been suspended for 1 month.
“It was a clear mistake on my behalf. No excuses. No appeal.
“Safety is paramount. It’s up to me to work hard and earn back respect.”
Childs, who won the Blue Diamond Stakes on Written By in February, had been booked for six rides on Sunday.
His ban is effective immediately and expires on June 20.
