BENDIGO'S Oscar 1 mine rescue team has returned home from Indonesia as international fire and rescue champions. The Country Fire Authority Team spent four days at an international fire and rescue competition in Senipah last week, where they claimed two first placings. The group represented Australia as they competed against 15 Indonesian teams. The proud local team, most of whom are CFA volunteers, came first in the helicopter crash rescue and ship engine fire events. "They can hold their heads high that they represented their country," team manager John Cutting said."We set a bit of a standard and a lot of teams and managers of teams said. `We need to get (to) that standard'."Mr Cutting said the group worked as they would in real life, and the competition confirmed the success of these skills and processes."We're flexible across a wide range of incidents," he said."We worked as a team and that was the most important bit."
