WINLESS after the first two rounds, Girton fought on to draw with the ladder-leading CCB in the latest round of the Bendigo Water Polo Club’s season.Scores were locked on six-all at the end of Thursday night’s contest at the Bendigo Aquatic Centre.The result shows just how even the competition has become.Another indicator of the even competition is that in three rounds there have been 29 goalscorers.Leader of the goalscoring table is Bendigo Water Polo Club coach Nick Gates, who has netted five goals, and is closely followed by four players on four goals apiece.First-year player Dan Carew, was in magnificent form for Girton and scored three goals against CCB.Other Girton goalscorers were Jeff Swan and the reliable Ian Symons.Goals for CCB were shared between Nick Gates, Josh Leech, Jacob Carroll, Rosie Coldwell and Marcus Arandt.The night’s play began with a 5-3 victory for the much-improved Murray Cods against Sharks.Bianca Frost scored two goals, and Paul Weeks, Damien Jennings and Mark Sanderson chipped in with one apiece for the Cods line-up.Better players for Sharks were Geoff Lancaster, Nikki Ridley and Luke Smart, who all scored one goal each.Lauren Morgan and Kelly Semple also played well.Highlight of the match was the monstrous seven-metre goal scored by Sharks youngster Luke Smart.Stingrays had the bye.Ladder after three rounds:CCB 10 points 144.4 per cent, Stingrays 8 108.3, Murray Cods 8 100.0, Sharks 8 90, Girton 2 77.7.Draw for this Thursday’s matches:6.30pm: CCB v Sharks.7.15pm: Murray Cods v Stingrays.Girton bye.
