The two people aged about 60-years old were in a plane taking off from the Caboolture airfield, north of Brisbane.
Queensland Police Superintendent Paul Ready said two light planes collided low to the ground at the airfield about 10.30am on July 28.
The other aircraft landed safely with the male pilot, aged about 70, suffering no significant injuries and assisting police with their investigation.
"There has been a loss of life which is tragic," Superintendent Ready said.
